Alternative es un estilo musical surgido a principios de los 70s, 80s y 90s e impulsado principalmente por grupos como the Ramones, XTC, the Cars, Blondie y the Police que tuvo su auge durante los años 1976, 1977, 1978 y 1979 con muchisimas bandas. Este estilo musical se caracteriza por mezclar gritos con melodias y hasta rimas como en el punk.
